Hatred

Text: Psalms 109:5 “And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.”

Introduction: Several weeks ago I saw on the news where Fraternity House members at a college had taken a vow to: “Always have hatred in their heart.”

These are our future leaders and businessmen. This was no surprise because the world has always treated Christians with evil and hatred. What a terrible way to live your life. Hate and anger have a severe effect on the physical body. The blood pressure rises and the pulse rate increases, acid pours into the stomach and the muscles tense.

Worldly Wisdom: Acts 10:38-39 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:” God knew what men would do to His Son, but He provided a way for mankind to escape the coming wrath of God and His judgment. God’s love cannot be expressed in human understanding, only the gifts of grace and mercy can save us from what we all deserve. We all helped kill the Son of God.

God’s Wisdom:  Hebrews 9:22 “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood is no remission.” God supplied Himself a Lamb once and for all to save us from sin’s judgment, His own Son. If you look around, you will see what sin causes; the innocent suffer from its result. An innocent lamb was required to pay sin’s debt. This is God’s requirement, not men’s. Jesus Christ became that Lamb.

Practice Love, Do Good: God wants us to love each other and to also go about doing good. Only
Christ can remove hate and evil, replacing it with good deeds and the love of God in our hearts. There is so much hatred in the world, let’s try to make a difference for the better. Make a vow
to: “Always have love in your heart.”

Conclusion: We are also to hate certain things, but not the way the world does. We are to hate what sin and evil does to people. We are to hate to see someone refuse to accept Christ as their savior, but we are to still show compassion and keep on witnessing to them. We are to get angry and sin not.
