Final Homecoming

Text: II Corinthians 5: “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”

Introduction: The Bible states that our spirit will live forever and when we die here on earth that our spirit will return to God.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” For Christians, that will be a joyful time; when we can rid ourselves of this imperfect body of flesh and receive a new body that is eternal. For God to reveal such news to mankind is truly a great gift that gives us hope when sometimes things look hopeless down here on earth. Mankind without hope makes for a miserable existence. Praise be to God through Jesus Christ. He provides a way! (John 3:16)

Only Imagine: I Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” God wants to surprise us. We only get a preview and the rest is by faith.

I Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

Conclusion: Many churches celebrate homecoming every year around harvest time. Family, Friends, Members and Past Members of the Church gather to worship, have a meal together and have a time of singing and rejoicing. We come together to try and visualize what our final homecoming might be like. God created us to have fellowship with Him and each other while here and in Heaven.

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” It would be so great; if we all could be at that final Homecoming.
