Text: Matthew 8:10 “When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”
Introduction: In these verses, Jesus was saying of this Gentile Roman Centurion that he had much more faith in Jesus than the children of Israel. Gentiles will also enter the Kingdom of Heaven and many Jews cast out.
Little Faith: Matthew 8:25-26 “And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.” Even the disciples had trouble with their faith. They had never seen anyone with this kind of power and had trouble believing what they saw Jesus do.
The lack of faith of the Modern Day Church hinders the work that could be done. Christians today believe what they see as possible and reject the rest. Jesus could not do many great works in his own home town because of unbelief.
Our Heroes: Hebrews chapter eleven lists the Hall of Fame of people who through faith believed God and did as He instructed them to do certain tasks. So many times we hear of heroes on television and role models for young people. None of them with ever be like God’s obedient servants who lived by faith.
What is Great Faith: Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” Great Faith is believing that God can do the impossible according to human knowledge. Jesus said that if we had faith the size of a mustard seed that we could move mountains.
Conclusion: What could we do with peach seed size faith? The faith that Jesus had; has been described by Dr. Phil Dillingham as: 1. Know the Word. 2. Believe the Word. 3. Say the Word out loud. 4. Apply what the Word says. If we use Christ as our example and live by His teaching. Someday we will arrive at Great Faith!
Pray for our world; it is in such turmoil; it needs a Saviour; it needs Jesus Christ!
