How to Be a Good Father

Text: Ephesians 6:4 “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

Introduction: There is a great responsibility when someone fathers a child. Many fathers today dessert their children, leaving the mother to raise the child on her own. God’s plan is for a man and woman to marry and have children and form a family. This is been going on for thousands of years. Destroy God’s plan and there are consequences; society suffers.

Below are ten things that make a good father:

  1. Love your wife.
  2. Don’t expect perfect children.
  3. Enjoy your children.
  4. Listen to your children.
  5. Provide for your children.
  6. Train your children.
  7. Pray for help and guidance.
  8. Pray for your children.
  9. Be a good role model. (Practice what you preach.)
  10. Prepare your children for life without you later on in life.

Conclusion: The Bible says that in the last days there will be the loss of natural affection. We see this loss daily as people act without conscience or think about the consequences. Besides God’s love, there is no greater love than that of a godly family. When you feel that no one wants you or loves you, there is no greater hurt. This hurt will eventually turn to anger. Fathers, please be a good father and take care of the children that you have helped bring into this world. They are the future!
