Knowing God’s Will

Text: Hebrews 13:20-21 “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Introduction: The Bible is full of information about the will of God. We call this the General Will of God. If you will study the scriptures many verses make known what God desires of the Christians as they live their lives to serve God and Christ.

The General Will of God.

Before we can do anything in God’s service; we must determine if we are in God’s will or Man’s will. Do we serve God only on Sunday, or every day of the week?

Many Christians are only part time Christians. They are not dedicated or committed to pleasing God or seeking His Will. Part time Christians:

Give up the easy things. Hold on to 10% of the hard things. Set a bad example for non-Christians. Cannot tell them from everyone else. Avoid hard decisions.

God has a plan for our lives if we seek His Will and please Him.

The Specific Will of God.

The biggest problem that the Christian faces is called the Specific Will of God. This means what God wants you to do only special for you as you serve Him. Examples are: Preacher, Evangelist, Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, Counselor, Church Janitor or Grounds Keeper. The women of the Church teach the children and raise them in the ways of the Lord, gently presenting the Gospel of Salvation to them. The women prepare meals for the fellowships and for families that have lost love ones in death. Prayer Warriors provide a vital service in the family of the Church. Everyone has a specific job in the Body of Christ.

Conclusion: Christians must know God’s General Will (Desire) before they can know God’s Specific Will (Assignment) for their lives.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
